Electroplating

Electroplating is primarily used to change the surface properties of an object e.g. abrasion and wear resistance, corrosion protection, aesthetic qualities, etc.
Electroplating changes the chemical & physical properties of the component. It prevents oxidation of the protected base metal by forming a barrier coating metal which is basically a thin layer of a different metal (Zinc). The layer of metal deposited compensates desired property, which the base metal of the component lacks. It increases life of base metal and prevents corrosion.
All Soft Iron, Low Carbon Steel, F5 components are electroplated with zinc within the range of 8-13 microns thickness either in Yellow or White Colour.
RTJ gaskets are electroplated in accordance with API Spec 6A 21st Edition.
